How to Achieve Stitch and Go Braids: The Braid Up Guide

I have to admit: Nothing beats the feeling of relief and relaxation that comes with a fresh set of braids. If you’re in need of a hassle-free hairstyle that will boost your energy, you’ve come to the right place. In today’s episode of The Braid Up, Atlanta-based braiding expert Erica White will teach you how to achieve the stitch-and-go style – a timeless look that’s perfect for your summer adventures. So sit back and pay attention as we break it down for you. Additionally, we’ll provide some valuable tips on how to maintain healthy hair while rocking this style:

1. Keep your hair moisturized with a deep conditioning mask. Before you begin any protective styling, make sure to wash and blow-dry your hair. However, before reaching for the hair dryer, apply a deep conditioner to your hair. This will help detangle and moisturize your curls, ensuring they’re in great condition before you start braiding.

2. Don’t forget to oil your scalp. To keep your scalp moisturized and prevent any discomfort while wearing your braids, massage a few drops of your preferred scalp oil every night. This will provide soothing relief and prevent any post-appointment itchiness.

3. Get creative with colors. Remember that cool ombre effect Erica showcased in the episode? You can go for a similar vibe or opt for vibrant, bold tips instead. Purchase a few bundles of braiding hair online before your appointment and provide them to your stylist. This will allow them to add dimension and make your style stand out.

4. Maintain your style with mousse. Want to ensure your look stays put? Apply a few pumps of a lightweight, non-flaky mousse to your hair. After smoothing it on, wrap your hair with a satin headscarf for 15-20 minutes. This will give the product enough time to work its magic and keep your braids looking fresh.

Remember, this fabulous hairstyle is brought to you in collaboration with Stasha Harris of Magic Fingers Studio. We also have Ashley Johnson as the makeup artist, Rob Mroczko as the videographer, Jay Aguirre as the production assistant, and Tara O’Connell as the director of the digital series.
